Who we are...

Formed in 1997, Facets is currently a group of 9 Textile artists.  Most members have City & Guilds qualifications in one or more of the Guild's range of textile subjects.  We meet up on a weekly basis which gives us regular access to each other's specialisms and particular method of working.  This promotes ideas and inspiration and helps us to work towards cohesive exhibitions.
Facets Group has exhibited at many different venues around the country and our current and future exhibition dates can be found under the 'Exhibitions' tab.

JAN COLBECK
Needle and thread have been part of Jan’s life for as long as she can remember, but it wasn’t until her 40’s that she had the time to study creative embroidery.  New techniques fire her enthusiasm, and she pursued a City and Guilds Creative Embroidery course which resulted in her finished works being selected by the centre for public display to promote the course.  The excitement and anticipation of trying new techniques continue, as does the passion for working with textiles.
MARY GASKELL
Trained and worked as a primary school teacher, interspersed with bringing up a family.  A chance visit to an exhibition re-awakened an interest in textiles.  City & Guilds studies opened up a new world of colour and texture.  Inspiration comes mostly from natural forms, rocks and landscapes photographed on holiday.  Much of Mary’s work uses hand made felt and manipulated fabric to create a textured finish.
RHONA GREENSILL
Rhona continues to pursue an all time interest in art and textiles in all its forms, rekindled whilst taking a City & Guilds course in creative embroidery.  Inspiration is gathered from any source to feed a wide interest including, trees, buildings, landscapes, seascapes and patterns.  Techniques involving acrylic paints, printing, pleating and layering fabrics to achieve an individual piece of work.
BRENDA HARGOOD
With a long background in dressmaking and tailoring, when she retired, Brenda sought to broaden her love of sewing into other areas and discovered Patchwork & Quilting, almost by accident.  She had enrolled on a City & Guilds Soft Furnishing course but was hooked when she saw the work being produced by the Patchwork and Quilting class and promptly transferred.  Brenda continued the learning process gaining further City & Guilds qualifications in Machine Embroidery, which has now become her passion.  Brenda enjoys challenging herself to produce new and innovative work - loves using her own photography as her starting point and is driven to continually develop her skills to keep her work fresh and exciting.
MARY HART
Having spent most of her very busy life in farming and farm tourism, Mary looked for something different to assuage an interest in textiles and art. In taking a City and Guilds course in textiles and embroidery she found good friends and a never ending fascination with colour, thread, shape and texture.  Working instinctively Mary is always keen to try the unusual! Plastics, papers and fabrics of all kinds, nothing is taboo.  (Commissions welcomed).
DOROTHY MCGUIRE
Embroidery has always played a part in Dorothy’s life, initially working with fine silk embroidery and crewel work.  Studying for the City & Guilds in Embroidery/Design, and Machine Embroidery at Tresham Institute, Kettering enabled Dorothy to widen her horizons.  Inspiration is taken mainly from the countryside, architecture and historical buildings and the way changing light affects the scene.
ANNE NEWMAN
Anne has sewn and embroidered for most of her life.  She was introduced to textiles at a college exhibition and was persuaded to “have a go”.  Coursework had to accommodate a busy family, but she completed the City & Guilds Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting.  Anne is a member of the local Embroiderers Guild and now enjoys combining contemporary quilting and decorative embroidery.  She is inspired by the colours of the natural world.
PAT WALLER
First studied Textile Art in her teacher training and resumed further studies as relaxation amid the perpetual motion of family life.  Pat draws much of her inspiration from natural forms as well as sights and experiences from travel.   Using free and varied techniques as she works intuitively to create ideas or impressions in her work which include-hand dyed fabrics.
CHRIS YATES

Stitching and textiles have interested Chris since school, leading to studying a degree in Textiles at Manchester in the 1980s. It is only in the last few years that she has had the opportunity to pursue more of an artistic interest in textiles. She has completed City & Guild Courses in embroidery/design and is also a member of the Northamptonshire Guild of Designer Craftsmen. Chris loves to take part in workshops to soak up as many new techniques and as much information as possible in order to expand her knowledge and confidence. Experimenting with new ideas gives her great satisfaction and endless sources of inspiration and development.        (Commissions welcomed)
